The resettlement of families who lost their homes with the passage of the waste, after the collapse of the Fundão dam, has as its mission to reestablish the ways of life and the organization of the communities that lost their homes due to the passage of the waste – the districts of Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu de Baixo, in Mariana; Gesteira, in Barra Longa; and the rural communities of this municipalities. Its main objective is to ensure that the housing and areas where they will be settled and the public facilities meet the needs raised by the residents, preserving their habits, their relations with their neighbors, and cultural and religious traditions.

Elaborated with the active participation of the residents, the project of the resettlements of Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu de Baixo, in Mariana (MG), resembles the construction of cities and takes shape by the first houses being completed, by paved streets, by public facilities on their final stage of construction, illuminated roads and advanced infrastructure works. In Gesteira, the conceptual project has been completed. Until the villages and properties are rebuilt, everyone has the right to housing guaranteed by the Renova Foundation, in the region of Mariana and Barra Longa.

Family resettlement is the option for those affected who have lost their homes, but want to live outside the collective resettlements of Bento Rodrigues, Paracatu de Baixo or Gesteira. Among the repair actions, there is the reconstruction of family homes in the rural area of Mariana and Barra Longa. The work contemplates the restitution of the right to adequate housing, resumption of productive activities, and access to the communities’ infrastructure and public facilities.
